The 2021 Frank Schneider Memorial Muskie Tournament was held September 10, 11, and 12. 410 anglers participated and registered 66 muskies 40 inches or over during the event.
First place finisher was James Hanson, also the tournament winner in 2019, who boated 5 muskies on Lake Winnibigoshish. His efforts earned him a week-long trip to Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods, as well as a new rod and reel from Abu Garcia and Berkley line. All of the top ten winners and junior winner received a rod, reel, and line courtesy of Pure Fishing.
Junior winner was Jack Dincau with 3 muskies, 47 inches and 50.5 inches from Big Lake. Second place junior was Chase Whitney with a 47.5-inch muskie from Leech Lake. Payton Tresco took third place in the junior division with a 40-inch muskie from Leech Lake.
Two ladies – Shannan Dryer and Christine Schmidt – registered the top muskies caught by a lady of any age to receive ladies bonus cash.
Seven muskies over 50 inches were registered on Friday – four 50-inchers and three 50.5-inchers. Shannan Dryer was the first person to register a 50.5-inch muskie and was awarded a replica of the fish courtesy of Lax Reproductions.
Dom Trom registered the longest of two northerns 38 inches or bigger to win the Northern division.
Unfortunately there were no senior contestants who boated a muskie to qualify for the Bob Kubista Senior Bonus. Senior John Newman, who boated a 26-inch muskie was awarded the plaque.
The Grand Prize this year was divided into three equal amounts, tripling the chances of winning. Grand prize winners of $3,800 each were Mike Palke, Shannon Dryer, and Chase Whitney.
