Keegan McIntosh took first place in the 16th annual George Wahl Memorial Muskie Tournament on Saturday, September 28. The 156 participants produced only 6 muskies over 40 inches. The day was warm and sunny, with virtually no wind. The first three fish were called in during the first hour of the day. The three other fish over 40 inches were registered during the rest of the day. Fish came from a variety of lakes with Waconia the only lake producing more than one muskie. The majority of the fish were caught in shallow waters.

Winner Keegan McIntosh started out with bucktails. After observing all the other anglers on the lake also throwing bucktails, he decided he needed to switch to something different. He got his 51-inch Independence muskie using a black Medussa. Adam Hoen, fishing Waconia, won second place with a 46.5-inch fish. Third place was taken by Mark Kuether with a 43-inch fish from White Bear Lake. Kanyon Fellers and Camden Droppo each with a 42.5-inch muskies rounded out the top five anglers. Robert Gordon, boat partner of Adam Hoen, caught the sixth fish.

Every person who registered a muskie and was at the awards program was entered in the Grand Prize drawing for a trip to Lake of the Woods Lodge and $500. Grand Prize winner was Keegan McIntosh.

One hundred percent of the proceeds from this event goes towards our local metro-area muskie fishery. Thank you to all who participated in the 2024 tournament and helped contribute a little to the fishery.
