The 2018 Frank Schneider Memorial Muskie Tournament was held September 7, 8, and 9. 475 anglers participated and registered 96 muskies 40 inches or over during the event. 

First place finisher was Matt McDonald who boated 4 muskies on Leech Lake. His efforts earned him a week-long trip to Red Wing Lodge on Lake of the Woods, as well as an Abu Garcia rod and reel, Spiderwire line and a Sébile lure. All of the top ten winners and junior winner received a rod, reel, line and lure courtesy of Pure Fishing. 

Junior winner for the second year in a row was Chase Hinrichs from Bemidji, MN. Chase registered a 43.75-inch muskie also from Big Lake.

Three ladies – Caitlin Cummings Bissen, Anita Doenz and Julie Buzicky – registered the top three muskies caught to receive the ladies bonus cash. 

A 53.5-inch muskie from Lake Bemidji boated by Joe Peterson from Minneapolis, MN was the longest fish in the tournament.

The Grand Prize this year was divided into three equal amounts, tripling the chances of winning. Grand prize winners of $4,340 each were Joe Peterson, John Groteberg, and Matt Seifert. 

No northerns 38 inches or bigger were caught during the tournament.
