The Twin Cities Metro Tiger Derby is one way all tiger anglers can help to ensure there will be tigers in the metro lakes in the future. Last year and again this year, the MN DNR has come up short on funds to stock tigers. To stock tigers this year, $18,000 in funds will be needed. All proceeds from the Derby will go to the Metro Tiger Stocking Fund sponsored by Thorne Bros. and both Twin Cities Muskies, Inc. chapters.
The Derby is open to anyone who wants to join. You can fish on any tiger lake in the Twin Cities metro area. Fish can be caught fishing from shore, from a fishing pier, or from a boat. Prizes will be awarded for the most total inches caught during the season and the longest tiger. Cost to join the Metro Tiger Derby is $10 for juniors (under 18 in 2026) and $40 for adults.
The tournament will be run using the Fish Donkey app on your phone. You will be required to submit a photo of the tiger showing the length and a photo of you holding the fish. Length of the fish and the lake are recorded in the app.
