AQUATIC INVASIVE SPECIES BOAT INSPECTIONS

Every boat that participates in the tournament must be inspected for aquatic Invasive species during the week before the tournament or any pre-fishing. All participants will be sent a tournament boat inspection card. You must complete the card and turn it in on Thursday to receive a tournament button and packet and be eligible to fish in the tournament.

The boat will either:

Belong to another tournament participant OR

Be located in “home” waters and not have been in any other waters for a minimum of 30 days OR

Have been inspected by an official inspector during the week prior to the tournament and any pre-fishing. They may recommend that the boat be decontaminated. If so, you must also complete that sectino of the card. No card will be accepted without a selection marked on the left-hand side of teh card and the box at the lower right-hand side of the card completed. 

1. Each contestant must complete a Tournament Entry and comply with Boat Inspection.

2. Boats, equipment, and conduct must comply with all Minnesota State laws. Minnesota State Fishing Licenses are required.

3. There must be a minimum of two persons in each boat. All occupants in the boat, including guides, must be registered tournament contestants whether they fish or not.

4. All contestants must be wearing an approved life vest when the boat is under power of the gas motor.

5. TOURNAMENT WATERS: Contestants must stay on the designated waters of the tournament zone they selected on their Tournament Entry at all times during the tournament.

6. TOURNAMENT BUTTONS: Each contestant will be issued a tournament button. TOURNAMENT BUTTON MUST BE worn and visible AT ALL TIMES WHEN ON THE WATER. 

7. TOURNAMENT HOURS: 7:00 am to 7:00 pm Friday and Saturday and 7:00 am to 11:00 am on Sunday. For the duration of the tournament, tournament waters may be fished ONLY during tournament hours.

8. All fish must be caught during tournament hours in designated waters using legal sportfishing tackle. ONLY ARTIFICIAL LURES/BAIT MAY BE USED. All muskies entered must be a minimum of 40 inches in length.

9. Fish must be returned to the water alive in the presence of one witness. Contestants must remain with the fish until it swims away unaided. Fish may not be transported. Fish that have been taken to a scale will be disqualified.

10. FISH REGISTRATION: FOR EACH FISH ENTERED, CONTESTANTS ARE REQUIRED TO CALL IN OR TEXT TO TOURNAMENT HEADQUARTERS, TURN IN A FISH REGISTRATION FORM, AND SUBMIT A PHOTO.

FISH REGISTRATION FORMS AND PHOTOS MUST BE TURNED AT A NIGHTLY FEED ON THE DAY THE FISH IS CAUGHT.

Call in or text your entry to Tournament Headquarters at the numbers listed on the Fish Registration form in your tournament packet. Time of registration will be the time of your call/TEXT.

Complete one Fish Registration Form for each fish you
register. Registration forms and photos (if you are using a  digital camera) must be turned in at a Registration Station the day the fish is caught.

Your witness must complete the witness portion of the Registration Form. WITNESS MUST BE ANOTHER TOURNAMENT CONTESTANT IN YOUR BOAT. Witness must be available at the Sunday Awards Program to verify your entry to a Tournament Official.

A fish is not considered officially registered until the Fish Registration Form and photo are turned in and they have been reviewed by Tournament Officials.

11. PHOTOS: Contestant must have a digital camera or smart phone available. Film cameras, disposable (one-time use) cameras, and flip phones are not acceptable. If you are using a digital camera, you must have the USB connection cord for your camera available to download at the Registration Station.

The photo must show you holding your fish. You must be wearing your tournament button in the photo. It must be visible and identifiable.

It is preferable to hold the fish in a horizontal (not vertical) position.

Submitted photos will become the property of Twin Cities Chapter of Muskies Inc.

12. REGISTRATION STATIONS: On Friday and Saturday evenings Registration Stations are open between 7:00-9:00 pm at each of the feeds. On Sunday, the Registration Station will be at Northern Lights Casino Event Center only between 11:00 am and 12:30 pm. ALL ENTRIES ON SUNDAY MUST BE TURNED IN BY 12:30 PM.

13. POINT SYSTEM: You will receive 10 points for each 40 inch muskie released. In addition, you will receive one point or fraction thereof for each inch or fraction over 40 inches measured to the nearest 1/2 inch. 1/2 inch gets 1/2 point.

        Examples:     40 inches = 10 points
                             42-1/2 inches = 10 + 2-1/2 = 12-1/2 points

14. TIES: In the case of multiple contestants having the same number of points, the order of place will be determined by the time of the call to Tournament Headquarters by each contestant, with the earlier time getting the better place.

15. CONTESTANT CONDUCT: All contestants must be courteous to others. Trollers will respect weed beds. If there is a boat present in a spot, pull in behind the other boat, not in front.

The Tournament Committee reserves the right to disqualify a contestant for any obvious misconduct on the water or at a launch site.

16. PROTESTS: Any protest of violation of Tournament Rules must be presented in writing and signed. Protests must be turned in at one of the download stations on Friday or Saturday evenings, or before 12:30 pm on Sunday. Issue will be resolved with Tournament Judges and all parties involved.

ALL DECISIONS OF JUDGES AND/OR TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS ARE FINAL.

17. Judges and/or Tournament Officials may inspect boats at any time during the tournament.

18. The Tournament Committee reserves the right to require a POLYGRAPH TEST of any winners at contestant’s expense.

19. GRAND PRIZE DRAWING: The first muskie registered by each contestant (adult or junior) qualifies the contestant for an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing.

To be eligible for the Grand Prize, a contestant must register ONE muskie. Contestant’s name will be entered into the Grand Prize drawing ONCE AND ONLY ONCE, regardless of the number of muskies registered. The Grand Prize winner will be selected by draw at Awards Program on Sunday. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN.

20. JUNIOR DIVISION: Contestants under 18 years of age are eligible for the Junior Division. All tournament rules are the same. Junior Division will have 3 places with its own prizes. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN.

21. NORTHERN PIKE DIVISION: One prize will be awarded to the longest Northern Pike caught in the tournament. All tournament rules will apply except for length requirement which is 38 inches minimum length. Must be present to win. Northern Pike entries are NOT eligible for the Grand Prize Drawing. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN.

 

GRAND PRIZE DRAWING

To be eligible for the Grand Prize, a contestant must register ONE muskie. Contestant’s name will be entered into the Grand Prize drawing ONCE AND ONLY ONCE, regardless of the number of muskies registered. The Grand Prize winner will be selected by draw at Awards Program on Sunday. The grand prize winner will be responsible for all applicable taxes associated with acceptance of grand prize. YOU MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN.

 

ABU GARCIA BONUS PRIZE

The top three registered muskies caught using any Abu-Garcia reel and witnessed will win Gift Certificates for Abu-Garcia fishing products to be redeemed at Reeds Family Outdoor Outfitters-Walker, Joe’s Sporting Goods-St. Paul, or Thorne Brothers-Blaine.

In case of tie, first fish registered will have the better place. You must be present to win.

 

LADIES BONUS PRIZE

The top three registered muskies caught by a female contestant regardless of age and witnessed will receive cash prizes.

In case of tie, first fish registered will have the better place. You must be present to win.

 

FLY FISHING BONUS

The top three muskies caught, witnessed, and registered using fly fishing tackle will win product and/or gift certificates redeemable at Bob Mitchell’s Fly Shop in St. Paul. 

In case of tie, first fish registered will have the better place. You must be present to win.

 

LARGEST RELEASED MUSKIE

A graphite replica from Lax Reproductions will be awarded for the largest released muskie. Fish must be a 53 inch minimum. Please take girth measurement for fish replica.
